This year, I have a rather large list of tomato varieties. At first I thought I went too far with the quantity, but it turned out that it saved me. All varieties have been sown and are growing. But there is a problem with several varieties. Over the years of growing vegetable crops, for the first time I came across such low-quality seed. I wanted to grow these particular tomatoes for a long time, but the seeds did not come across. This year I was lucky, bought, sowed. I was looking forward to a good harvest, but what did I get in the end?

The first sowing of these seeds was done a couple of months ago. Seedlings were very poor, no more than 10-15% of seeds sprouted. The seedlings were long, not uniform, and those that did rise were so weak that some did not have the strength to throw off the seed “cap”, and even saying “seedlings” loudly did not inspire optimism, looked crooked and pathetic and completely did not grow. On this topic, I wrote an article with a photo, to which I received responses. Subscribers wrote about the reasons why this could happen. They called the poor quality of seeds, unscrupulous producers and poor soil. And I, my friends, decided to exclude some assumptions, figure it out, look for the reason.

I repurchased and planted some of these varieties, but planted in a different soil. Although in the first soil varieties of other tomatoes and peppers grow without problems. But an experiment is an experiment.

And what do you think the result was? More on this later. And now I will talk about those varieties and their producers that deprived me of euphoria, from the purchase of which I stayed in it.

The first tomato on the list, which I was looking for on sale for a long time, but I managed to buy it for the first time, is the DEMIDOV tomato from Altai Seeds.

The second no less desirable variety is NASTENKA from Altai Seeds.

The third one is not very familiar, but all from the same company Seeds of Altai called PARTY EVENING , yellow-fruited, which was specially purchased by the company for other yellow-fruited ones.

Another loser, only 3 seeds sprouted, the sprouts immediately stretched out and he looked like an ugly duckling with a long thin stalk, on top with two tiny cotyledon leaves. And this is also Seeds of Altai and tomato, SNOWGIR , which promises to be super early. With this development, he will most likely turn out to be super late, if at all something will come of him.

Nextvariety — BUYAN ( FIGHTER ) also from Altai Seeds out of 23 seeds sprouted in total … .. 0!

The newly sown tomato BIYSKAYA ROSE , a super giant tomato, whose weight promised to be 1.2 kg, also distinguished itself! All of the same firmSeeds of Altai. Only 3 seeds sprouted from the first pack, all 3 are now in separate cups 5 centimeters tall, already 1.5 months old! Well, not really a giant. When re-sowing from a whole pack, only 4 sprouted, very weak and not viable.

What a disastrous result! And all the seeds of one manufacturer, the seeds of which I purchased for the first time. Coincidence or accident? I think no! If the problem was with one or two varieties, it would be possible to assume that there was no luck with the batch, but here there is a clear lack of quality, seeds of absolutely poor quality, it is generally not known how these seeds were harvested, stored and packaged. The second question is what in general and what variety will grow, if it grows?

I would like to note how gardeners sometimes choose seeds. We look at the colorful and beautiful packaging, many of the varieties offered, in particular, by this agricultural company, are loud, advertised both by the company itself and by bloggers, known and desired by many gardeners, but the result can be deplorable.

The varieties, of course, are good, and many gardeners have successfully grown them, but we are talking about the quality of the seeds of this manufacturer this year. Terrible marriage!

Summing up, I make the final and reasonable conclusion that the problem of poor germination and poor development of seedlings, not as a soil, especially not in conditions, but as a seed material:

• the seeds were sown twice in different soil, the result did not change
• in the same soil, seeds of other varieties from other manufacturers sprouted well and develop
• care and conditions for all tomatoes are the same: they are in the same room with the same temperature, light and receive watering proportional to their growth and needs.

Thus, this producer has a clear problem with seed material. Not a very pleasant situation. Firstly , wasted money and not only for the initial purchase of seeds, but for additional seeds, even for new land. Secondly , wasted time and labor, as a result, the absence of seedlings of those varieties for which there was a calculation. Other varieties of other producers are developing according to plan.

Therefore, the seeds of this company and the company itself take pride of place in the anti-rating 2023! For the future, I will think a hundred times whether it is worth buying seeds from this company.
